Monday

The journey begins! Well not quite.  It’s 7.53 on Monday evening and we are at home about to watch Eastenders.  We are both really excited. About the holiday I mean, not Eastenders. Although I suspect Anne is a little bit excited about Eastenders as well. Never before in the annuls of history has such an epic journey been attempted! We have thrown caution to the wind and decided that we will not book up all of the  accommodation before we go. I’m serious. This is incredible for us. Think about it. Anne is easily the most organised person on the planet and yet here we are, the night before the trip and only three stops are confirmed, we could reach Blackpool and have nowhere to stay.

Most of the packing is done.  And by that I mean there is a heap of clothes and various toiletries on the bed ready to be put into bags. I’m really enjoying this casual attitude to our holiday. Tomorrow we pick up the rental car. It should be a Volvo XC60, if it’s not I shall be a little annoyed. I booked it two weeks ago and told them exactly what I wanted.  the guy said he couldn’t guarantee it would be a Volvo.  I said if I get there and it isn’t what would my options be. He said he should be able to get one for the next day. Okay. So you can’t guarantee one if I give you two weeks notice, but you can get me one for the next day? Go figure. Anyway, anything is going to be better than driving a clapped out Polo with a 3 cylinder boat engine, I should be grateful for small mercies.

Tuesday

Tuesday is bright and sunny. Woohoo! A good sign for the rest of the holiday. I’ve just picked up the car and yay it’s the one I wanted! I’ve realised I’m using too many exclamation marks! I’m going to have to come up with a better way to express excitement, or maybe not get so excited. Final preparations are underway and we will hit the road at around 1pm. Next instalment will be from Stratford-Upon-Avon, Shakespeare’s country! ooops! did it again!
