Washington DC

This is the first leg of our East Coast adventure. (Why leg? Where did that come from? Why not first arm, or better still first foot? At least foot is a unit of measurement. And for that matter an appropriate measure for the USA, not one of those new-fangled metric jobs. What would life be like if we had Metres at the end of our legs? Hmm back to legs). 

We arrived in Washington after a non-eventful flight, the best type, and spent nearly as much time coming through US border control. Can’t complain though, the in-queue entertainment meant we got to see a video about what we could and could not bring through 27 times. Evidently, you can’t bring ballistic missiles in with your hand luggage, huh, who’d have thought it?

One long sleep later and a meeting with my software partners – yes I know we are on holiday but they took us to lunch – and off to see the sights. We have ‘done’ Washington before but last time missed out on the Library of Congress – it was amazing! Even if you don’t like books it is well worth a visit. I was certainly in my element.

Anne, however, was getting a bit tired, partly due to jet lag and mostly due to swimming 64 lengths in the pool while I met Spider. She met a 9 year in the pool and taught him to swim and then had races. His name was Mason but he asked her to call him Rocky. Yet another life-long friendship, I suspect we will be hosting him in Winchester in a few years time. Only Anne. Back to the Library and quote of the holiday so far. The Library of Congress is home to the Guttenberg Bible, ‘What’s that when it’s at home’ quipped Anne. 

I forgot to mention, we picked up the car yesterday, it a Jeep Grand Cherokee, 3.2 litre V6, 0-60 in just over 5 seconds. Needless to say, I have a big smile on my face.
