Sherwood Forest
We really are in the middle of the Midlands. Everyone we meet is talking funny. Not quite e-up what’s-up yet but definitely a hint of what’s to come. It is a bit disconcerting. We must be north of the Watford gap. We cut the Stratford-Sherword trip in two and stopped off to see cheery Huw and lovely Liz. A wonderful lunch was provided, it was great to catch up. If you are reading this and don’t know who Huw and Liz are, Huw is Anne’s elder brother and Liz his wife.
On to Sherwood. Sherwood Forest is huge, but helpfully, the good folk of Edwinstowe have put a fence around the most interesting bit and told Robin and his merry men that they shouldn’t stray outside the boundaries. That way we get to see the band of intrepid archers frolicking in the glades, and they get, well, not a lot. The Old Oak was definitely old.
You do get a real sense of peace in the forest, some of the trees are amazing. The pics don’t do it justice. Well worth a visit.
