L. L. Bean

The journey so far has been predominantly North. Today we turned to the West. Yeehaa! But not until we made a short detour to Freeport. I have a pair of deck shoes that are 15 years old. They were bought (or ‘purchased’) at L. L. Bean in Maine, USA. today we went back to L. L. Bean to buy a new pair. I was very excited.

The store is huge so it took a while to find the shoes but finally, yay, there they were on display and guess what, the price was reduced by 50% so only $49.99!!! I was even more excited.

The shop assistant, a very pleasant Canadian man asked if I needed help so I gave him the shoe and showed him my 15-year-old versions, oh how we laughed. Until. He came back and said, “I’m very sorry sir, we do not have your size.”

“What! I’ve travelled 1,673 miles to buy these shoes” exclaimed I. It would appear that Canadian L.L. Bean shop assistants are not unfamiliar with this sort of comment. “happens all the time” said he.  Sad face for the rest of the day.
