Keswick
We arrived at the Keswick Hotel early evening and we were too tired to walk into town. The room service menu was nice and cheap so we thought we would eat at the hotel restaurant. Walking into the restaurant and being shown to our table we thought the waiter service was very good. The leather bound menus were very posh as well. Upon opening the menu we realised our mistake. No prices. What does one do in such a situation? Exclaim loudly, oh dear I have left my phone in the room and walk out? Lean over to the next table and ask them if they have prices on their menu? Call the waiter over and ask in a whisper what the prices are? Well for goodness sake, we are English, what do you expect, we blagged it out in the desperate hope that the prices would not be too high. It was a fantastic meal and unfortunately dear reader we are still here and I have no idea how much the meal was.
This morning we walked into town and then onto circumnavigate Derwent Lake. We were reliably informed by tourist information that it would take 3 hours. Two and a half hours later we were just less than halfway around and never more delighted to see a public Ladies and Gents.
My treat was sitting at the halfway point with a sausage roll. Anne was saving herself for an end-of-trip hot chocolate at Costa back in Keswick. It was 3.30pm, closing time at 4pm so with two miles to go so we had to step on it to ensure hot chocolate heaven. It wasn’t looking good at Portinscale where another 2 miles to go signposts meant we had 20 mins left, doable at a jog but not after 9 miles! Woohoo, we found a short cut and made it to Costa at 3.58, two minutes to spare. Costa in Keswick is open until 6pm on a Sunday. Ha!
